I also want to inspire others with this position to achieve their full potential in computer innovations, so that I can facilitate developing of better computer designs for the whole world. Therefore, I aim at taking an action that develops ability, creativity, honesty, determination, knowledge, consciousness for other people’s welfare, consistency, reliability and an action that further develops my vision as well as for others. I believe that through a clear demonstration of a visionary plan at this stage of education, I will inspire other students to achieve their goals, which will give me an early practice in leadership. My vision includes gaining as much knowledge and skills of using the knowledge, in order to motivate and inspire people that I intend to lead, provide them with direction and lead by example through practicing a people oriented leadership style that allows people to generate ideas through offering them chance to exploit their talents by delegating authority. I also want to empower people through providing a culture of communication among people at all levels, respect, and provide mentorship. Characteristics of Leadership Creativity: In an innovation company where people require innovating new things and ideas, creativity is one of the most important qualities a leader would need. This allows a leader to incorporate ideas together in a novel way to enhance operation, create an environment for innovation form others and provide an example to others as well. A leader who can do what his or her followers are supposed to do give more inspiration than one who does not. Honesty: this is one of the most important values or qualities for not only a leader, but also the whole organization. Honesty, same as integrity and truthfulness ensures that people in an organization carry on their operations without any thought of insincerity. This moral code prevents people from engaging in unethical behavior at work such as stealing, lateness, conducting unauthorized dealings within the organization and so on. This is a quality for all, and being a leader, workers will expect high honesty from me. Honesty also demands treating others with respect. Consciousness for others: This ensures that one is concerned about the welfare of other people, making sure that people strive to make each other comfortable in their areas of work. With this quality, I will extend my duties with devotion to ensure others are happy about it, especially when it comes to making decisions. Caring for others ensures that a leader takes decisions that are for the benefit of the whole organizations, and not just their self-interests. Reliability: A leader who is not reliable does not offer any leadership to his followers when they need it. A leader is depended upon by the followers, and lacking reliability means a leader cannot be relied on. Reliability ensures the followers that they can count on their leader in many situations such as making decisions, and solving problems. With out reliability followers cannot trust a leader to guide them. Reliability ensure that I give my followers confidence to trust in me, which will al low them to listen to me, or stand with me. Reliability can also include meeting objectives, keeping deadlines and promises, and being trustworthy. Inspiration: inspiration is among the most important qualities a leader should have to motivate and influence his or her followers. Many people will look for inspiration from their leaders. Inspiration means having all the characters of a leader needs such as intelligence in a particular field that is important to workers, respect for others, humility, reliable among others. An inspirational leader motivates his or her followers using his or her skills. With knowledge and skills, I can offer inspiration to my followers and gain even more trust from them. Consistency: with consistency as leader, I will be able to drive people towards maintaining high standards of work. Consistency ensures that everything is held up to standards and people are aware that consistency is a daily virtue that has to be upheld. Many times workers will perform w ith irregularity in their work, and ensuring consistency in my ideas will provide an example for them. Consistency is a matter of maintaining good standards everyday and inspiring people towards the same. Knowledge is considered power. Without knowledge a leader is weak and can have no way to inspire followers who might be knowledgeable than he or she is. Having knowledge in the field I intend to lead is crucial for me as leader. Leaders with more knowledge tend to influence workers easily than those without, especially when they can impart it to their followers. Knowledge helps leaders to gain influence among their followers considering people are more likely to follow leaders with more knowledge. Communication: communication is among the key drivers of success in modern organizations today. Communication across all departments of the organization ensures smooth flow of information to enhance operations. As a leader, communication is the only way to bond with the workers, and know what is happening within. This ensures that I can make informed decisions. More so, problems can be identified as they occur, enhancing quick timely decisions at the appropriate time. This works for me in all my daily activities in life, and I would expect such to be so among my followers, hence I would ensure it is upheld. Motivation: a motivated leader acts as an inspiration to others. Every time I ensure I am motivated to face my day, and minimize factor that reduce morale. Motivation is done in many ways, and I believe presenting an example by having high morale extends down to those that follow me. Determination: determination is one of the factors that drive people to achieve their goals. Especially for an innovation job, patience is needed since not all ideas will work, and determination to keep working towards achieving a goal is a necessity. As a leader, I have determination to persist in my endeavors, a quality that keeps my spirits of achieving my goals alive. Statement of Purpose Currently, being at high school and performing with excellence has taught me a lot, and many influences have worked in synthesis to shape me including my vision of becoming a manager in leading computer-manufacturing company. The biggest influence towards shaping my aspirations has been my dad, especially how he has run his distribution business, and managed to keep our family in healthy condition. Learning at a young age that a father is the leader of the family, my curiosity of how leadership is conducted started from observing my father make important decision, not leaving us out when making such decisions. All his decisions were inclined towards making us happy. This inspired me to be a leader some day. When I grew older, my dad would take me to his business where I was fascinated by the use of computers, and other office equipment. Soon my dad bought me a computer that I still hold dear to even today despite being outdated. At his business, I saw more of my father making decisions and inspiring workers in a meeting through imparting new knowledge about logistics in them. I realized he was respected, and this drove me further to become a leader. More so, his concern for his workers has always been high and respects each of them. In addition, there was free communication across his business where all workers at all levels interacted and anybody could report to him incase any thing is needed. I have learned so much from my father’s role as the boss of his business. However, recently I learned a hard lesson, which I must say has further taught me that leadership is not just about being good to everybody. Some people may be out to see one down, and if one wilts to their pressure, as a leader one will have failed. This was in a teamwork where I was the leader in a school project and several decisions had to be made. As the leader, I was supposed to take the best decisions according to my knowledge, since I would be accountable. However, one of the team members was quite against the decision I intended to take towards the project, and from much pressure and swearing to quite, a wilted. Our project was last, and at the presentation stage, I had to bear the shame of explaining why our performance was so poor. I learned that sometimes a leader has to stand on his ground amidst pressure. This, I must say made me a stronger leader. Considering I am still a high school student, I with only the Spring Semester remaining before I can achieve my vision. However, I have been under the leadership of many leaders that have taught me many skills in leadership. For instance before high School, I held a position in the Coast Guard for 5 years. Now I am sure that I have leadership skills through the experiences I have had such as leading the class in many decisions without having any authority form teachers, and during times when I am a team leader, which has happened to me several times, when my peers choose me as their leader. This has furthered my aspirations as a leader, especially where creativity and innovation are required, considering I have been at the top when it comes to making and influencing other students to take certain decisions with me. Right now I just seek to go step by step, without skipping any until I achieve my vision, even though it seems several years in the future, working towards it now makes me feel closer towards my vision, than choosing to work on it tomorrow.
